Logo Design

Studio Church is the creative playground of bronze sculptor James Church. Back in 2006 I had the pleasure of helping him find his first professional identity. The final identity drew inspiration from the color, vocabulary and dramatic environment of bronze casting.

By overlapping the “O” in Studio and the “C” in Church I arrived at a representation of the circular kiln with its opening into the cavity where the masters are fired. Fire and steam became optional design elements in a flexible system for branding anything from stationary to t-shirts. Word play became a part of the brand tone as I repurposed sculpting terms in ways that are fun for art patrons. “Pour artist.” being James’ favorite it adorns the back of his business cards. And, the sculpture he made for me still adorns my studio desk.
